Getting back my domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey,
I cancelled my purchase of the domain name thegblog.org yesterday not knowing that I can map it to another website within wordpress.com itself. I would like to map it from WordPress.com but it says the domain name is already taken when I’ve already cancelled it and I am pretty sure that nobody else has bought it as I can still see the domain status has not been updated since I deactivated it yesterday.

Is there any way of getting it back to redirect it from WordPress.com?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I cancelled my purchase of the domain name thegblog.org yesterday

Do you want to keep the domain? If so, I can contact the registrar. I would need to send a payment request for the Personal plan. Previously you had the Premium plan, but the Personal plan would cover the cost of the domain.

You will need to create a site for me in your account so I can add the plan and domain to it.

I would like to map it from WordPress.com

Are you looking to use the domain on another WordPress.com site or a site hosted elsewhere?

Once I know more, I’ll be happy to help you out.

    I’m using hosting on Bluehost.

Hey Gemma, any update? By the way, the domain I was referring to is thegblog.org

I also posted on the forum about the possibility of reversing our cancelling or to restore our subscription. Can we do that? Thanks!

    Hi there,

I was waiting for you to confirm whether you would like me to try and recover the domain. But you have done so now :)

I have sent you a payment request for the subscription you would like to restore — which includes domain costs. However, please be aware that if the domain goes into redemption when we try to recover it, there will be an additional redemption fee of $80.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey Gemma, okay I have already made payment.

    What’s next? :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for making the payment. We have started the process of trying to get the domain back, and I will let you know as soon as I have an update on that — it might be a couple of days so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me straight away.

In your first message, you mentioned the following:

not knowing that I can map it to another website within wordpress.com itself

The next steps are to create a new (free) site in your WordPress.com account — once you have done so, I can add the Premium plan to that site for you. If the domain is recovered, I will add that to your plan too.

    Hi,

Good news! thegblog.org is active again :)

Let me know when you have created your site and I will add your plan and domain.

Hey Gemma! Thank you. Is this site okay? http://thegblogorgblog.wordpress.com/

Also, just hit me that you mentioned that we could have used the personal plan to cover the domain? Can we use that instead and get a refund?

    Hi there,

Also, just hit me that you mentioned that we could have used the personal plan to cover the domain? Can we use that instead and get a refund?

I’ve restored your domain to thegblogorgblog.wordpress.com and added a Personal plan to your account. Your previous plan was set to expire on 2017-03-17; as you still have a few weeks left I have refunded the $99 you paid for the Premium plan.

When your plan and domain are due for renewal in a few weeks time, it will renew as the Personal plan.

Refunds usually take about a week to process and show up on your statement. You can view, print or email yourself a copy of the refund receipt from your Billing History here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing

You can now set thegblog.org as the primary domain for your site using these instructions:
