Getting control of domain back

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I’ve found another provider for my website, and I now want to register the domain that I originally had for this site to that one. (ran-usaevent.com)
Do I need to do anything for WordPress to free up that domain? It doesn’t seem to appear in my list of domains, but when you go to ran-usaevent.com, it automatically redirects to ran-usaevent.wordpress.com, a wordpress page that it then says doesn’t exist.
I don’t want to redirect the url ‘ranusaevent.wordpress.com’, which seems to be the only option it is giving me in my list of domains, just ran-usaevent.com.
Can you help at all please?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, if you registered your domain ran-usaevent.com with WordPress.com, do not cancel it here in order to make it available at your new provider.

As long as you are logged in with the username account that purchased the domain/upgrade plan, you have a few options in how you can proceed. Please see this guide to domain transfers: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/#transfers

Let us know if you have any other question after reading that guide.

    Howdy,

I do see that the domain, ran-usaevent.com was mapped to WordPress.com in the past but is not any longer. Mapped domains are bought outside of WordPress.com and point to our hosting. Public record show the domain was bought at Ascio Technologies, Inc. To point the domain to your new provider login to the registrar (where you bought the domain) and update things there.
