Getting Error on Desktop App
-
In WordPress Desktop App, when I click to create a new post, it gives me the following error:
Proceed in External Browser?
You have one or more plugins that prevent editing content within WordPress Desktop. Continue in External Browser? When I click on Confirm, it opens WordPress and closes the WordPress Desktop. When I click Cancel, WordPress Desktop is still open but with a white background. I can access the menu but cannot create new posts through the Desktop app. I am able to create posts from my phone though.
I’ve been doing it through the Desktop App for months now and I downloaded the most recent version today but to no avail, it didn’t work.
Could you please investigate the problem?
Thanks!

Hi there, we’ve had a few reports of this recently and it seems to be connected to whether you have your Account interface settings to show the wp-admin pages when possible. The desktop app uses the more recent WordPress.com dashboard and this seems to be messing things up. Have you tried settings this back to the default setting instead?
I’ve also flagged your thread for staff attention.

Hi there,
This is a known issue, and was caused by the recent changes to the dashboard navigation on WordPress.com. Our developers are working on a fix, but I’m not able to tell you at this time when that will be done.
It might work if you change the account interface settings at https://wordpress.com/me/account that @justjennifer referred to above, but if that doesn’t help you’ll have to use a browser to work on your site instead in the meantime.
Sorry for the trouble.

Hi all, is there any update on this issue? I’m getting the same error and also other offline-tools using XML-RPC are no longer working. Is there any other idea on a possible workaround?
-
Hi, same problem for me…
Please let us know when the problem is solved. Quite disturbing…Thanks.Regards

On my blog hosted on wordpress.com (managed) I don’t have the problem. But on my blog hosted on dreamhost (self managed) I have this problem. The wordpress app in general works, but I’m no longer able to publish any new entry on my self managed blog with the app or any other offline editor. On the wordpress.com managed blog this is no problem. Really crazy.

@juergendoell, if it’s happening on any offline editor, the issue is with your site, not with the app. In that case we’re not able to help, as your site is not on our servers, and we have no access to it at all, except what access you give via XML-RPC.
Please ask the WordPress.org community for advice instead – they provide support for the WordPress software you’re using:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
You can also contact your hosting provider to check if there’s any issues with XML-RPC on your server.

Update: The setting in question is not connected to the issue. I never enabled admin posts, and toggling it on and off again did not resolve things.
-
Please see my first reply to this thread.
The issue is because of the recent navigation changes on WordPress.com, but changing the interface settings doesn’t work for everyone. The fact that it doesn’t work for you, doesn’t mean it’s not related to the error message.
Our developers are working on this, and it will be fixed in a future update of the app, but at this time we’re not able to say when that will be. If changing the interface settings for your account doesn’t help, please use a browser instaed in the meantime.

Hello!
First of all, thank you soooo much for responding! I actually didn’t think I would get a response due to past forum experiences, but you’ve shown me great customer service just by responding.
I look forward to the fix that will resolve this issue. Will be praying for a speedy resolution!
Thanks,

Happy to help :)
The fix for this is already in internal testing. But this required a major overhaul of how the desktop app works in its entirety, so the testing phase will be a bit longer than it usually is for smaller updates, and you might see a few more minor updates to the app before the new version is released.

Hi! “The fix for this is already in internal testing.” When will they launch the fixed version of the desktop app? The problem that the browser version does not have all the necessary features that I need. It’s so frustrating, this is for weeks now. When will the fixed version be available? Thanks
-
Hi there,
Because this is more than a minor fix, we do not have a timeline for when it will be ready for a future update.
If I can ask, what is the “necessary feature” you are able to use in the WordPress app that is not available on the browser when you manage your site directly on WordPress.com? Happy to take a closer look at that.
-
Hi, the feature is available, it just doesn’t work. I don’t know its name, so I try to explain it. I like my text to look neat. You have the option to arrange the lines to the left, to the right, and in the middle, and the function I’d like to use, when the lines are arranged both to the left and right. I select the paragraph, click on this function – and nothing happens. Arranging the lines to the left doesn’t look nice to me.
-
Hi there, It doesn’t seem like the text is justified in the Block Editor, but if you preview your post after saving your draft, does it look like you want?
-
Hmmm… I did what you suggested, and yes, in the preview, it looks fine. Thanks!
Anyway, I like the the WordPress App better, so looking forward to the new version with the fix. -
Is there any update on this? There was an update, and the problem is still persisting for me. Was the last one supposed to fix it? Because quite frankly, it did not.
I am a free user and I don’t even have plug-ins, so this is a little bit extra infuriating.
