Getting GoDaddy domain name to work with WordPress
-
I purchased a domain with Godaddy a few months ago, and recently decided to use that domain with WordPress. I contacted support, but have yet to receive a reply, so I figured I would reach out on this forum. I set my namesavers according to these steps: http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5182/mapping-your-domain-to-work-with-a-wordpresscom-blog and then followed these steps: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ (including paying the upgrade fee). I am not sure if I am going about this the right or wrong way, but I feel like what I want to accomplish should be VERY simple. I want my domain name, which I registered through GoDaddy, to serve as the web address used for my WordPress posts. I enlisted the help of my computer savvy friend (who runs IT at a major hospital chain), and even he couldn’t solve this problem. Also, now, the “www.” seems to have disappeared from my namesaver. Earlier it was there. Is there anyone out there with some advice?? Many, many thanks.

It looks like the domain mapping did not happen – what do you see at
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades
The www goes away here – it is a feature -www is old internet

I just stumbled upon this statement on the WordPress website:
WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. Mapping the “www” subdomain is not supported. Also, we do not currently allow mapping to subdirectories, such as example.com/blog.
Could this be the source of the problem? The name I have registered with GoDaddy is a http://www.name.com domain.

Hi auxclass,
When I go to Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades, it says “Site Redirect: http://www.myname.com” and “Status: Active”.

Is drunkandchunky.com your name?
Site redirect is a bad sign – Domain Mapping is what needs to be active – you want to cancel site redirect – then purchase the Domain Mapping –

I just confirmed that you now have the Domain Mapping Upgrade and that your blog is pointing to the associated domain. Is this all now working as you expected?

Yes, catrymer. As predicted by auxclass, I purchased site redirect instead of Domain Mapping. I cancelled the redirect and now have the Domain Mapping working! Many thanks for the quick and thorough responses.
