Getting increased traffic with no engagement. Is this some sort of attack?

Twice in less than two weeks I have gotten an unusual jump in traffic. It doesn’t seem to be returning traffic or having any referral. Each time this traffic seems to be about 20 to 30 visits to the Home page and nothing else. If it is an attack it doesn’t seem to hae a purpose. Is there something I should do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I wouldn’t be too concerned – your blog is hosted with wordpress.com on powerful servers. 20 to 30 hits don’t really add any considerable workload too them. Some people actively block referring information to be transferred so that’s maybe why you can’t see, where they’re coming from.

Just to be sure, you could change your password and keep an eye out for suspicious log-in attempts, but other than that you should be fine!

  • Hi there,

Someone cannot attack your page by merely visiting it, and that is all increased views indicate – someone visiting your site.

This is most likely people discovering your site via a Reader search, or a link a friend of theirs shared on Facebook, or something similar. Sounds like they’re just scrolling down your site’s front page – each new set of posts that load on the front page is counted as a view – to see what your site is about.

The fact that there’s no engagement means they likely just didn’t see anything on your site they consider worth liking or commenting on.
