getting into 'admin'

I’m very new to WordPress and taking over our Society’s website from someone else who is not available to help me. I have gone up on our website and changed the password for it, along with the WordPress password. I just went into the website’s ‘Admin’ section to change that password. Everything went well and password was changed to a generated one (very long one). I carefully wrote it down, double checked it, then went out of the website. On trying to log back in, you guessed it, I have something wrong. So after several attempts, I tried the ‘don’t remember your password’ rule, but apparently, somehow, our e-mail address is not connected to the site and so I can’t get help. How can I get back into my account, or how can I talk to someone within the WordPress world for help?

It looks like you may be working on a self-hosted WordPres.org site on Dreamhost instead of the WordPress.com-hosted sites that are supported here.

Thanks but we definitely use WordPress.com. I am also nervous to use PHP MyAdmin as I don’t know a lot about databases. I also don’t know how to even get PHP MyAdmin.

Oops – sorry – I am mixing up WordPress with our webhost. We did set up our own website so perhaps it was done through WordPress.org? But when we sign in, we go through WordPress.com. So now I am more confused.

No worries! It looks like your site is using the Jetpack plugin. This plugin allows you to easily connect your self-hosted WordPress site with WordPress.com so you can log in there, in addition to other features. I hope that helps clear things up a little!
