Getting more traffic to your blog (not a question- it’s a suggestion)
-
I wandered onto a site yesterday that I hadn’t seen before. It looks to be (kindof) a new concept. I’ve spent some time on it, learning to get around to see if it was worth posting about here @ my wordpress family. (One of the things that got my attention – their beacon isn’t java – I put it on my own blog – it blinks and there’s no java and I was tickeled, since we can’t use java…LOL) I liked it more than I thought I would, so I contacted the site for more info, telling them I would be telling more people (wordpress) about it with any info they could provide. (Their site name is http://youmob.com) No this is not my site, I’m just sharing it. I can’t often help on the forum, since I’m new to this. Ok, This is their response, a guy named Steve replied- pasted here:
YouMob was designed as a way for passionate people to gather around sites
addressing issues they feel strongly about. The goal is that when something
big happens, or you want it to, you can come together, be counted, react to
what’s going on, and speak out live. Think of it as a rally.YouMob gives sites lots of ways to promote themselves. First, you can mob
your own site. When you do, it appears in a list on YouMob’s home page. When
people enter the site, they are entering a “mobbed” version of the site. A
mobbed site shows who’s there right now, lets mobbbers share their reaction
and transmit comments live.A neat promotional feature is beacons. Beacons are simple HTML images you
can put in any web page, and that show the mobbing status of a site or user.
A mob beacon shows whether your site is currently being mobbed. A follow-me
beacon shows whether you are currently mobbing. If either beacon is
blinking, when your visitor clicks it, they go to the appropriate mob.A partner beacon is like a site beacon, but it’s used by sites with outbound
links to other sites. When you click a partner beacon, you go to the mob as
well, but with an added benefit: Everytime a visitor clicks a partner beacon
on your site, you are given a free advertising credit on YouMob. These
credits determine the frequency that we display a banner ad you provide.
Clicking the banner takes YouMob visitors to your site, which drives further
traffic to you.Our Friend/Fan system is another way to promote mobs. When you gain fans on
YouMob, they are automatically notified by email of new mobs you start. You
may also invite your fans to special events. Note that these email features
are optional per user – they can opt out at any time. Also, email addresses
are kept private as emails are sent by YouMob directly to users. For sites that can enter meta tags in their HTML, owners can control how
their site is shown in YouMob lists. You can control the title, description,
and image. Finally, we are scheduling “ad blitz” campaigns to bring new visitors into
YouMob’s various topic areas. For example, we are running a blitz on
Animals today 6/9/07 at 8:00AM PST. During a blitz we encourage site owners
to mob their site and send as many visitors as they can to the mob. Since
sites are displayed in the order of most mobbers, the more visitors you
send, the more likely other visitors will see you and join in. We also
encourage site owners or advocates to attend in order greet and chat with
mobbers.YouMob is young so we appreciate any feedback we receive. Also, if you
believe in the idea, we encourage people to tell friends to spread the word
and post us on your favorite social bookmarking sites. (Delicious, Digg,
Stumble, etc.) Also, when commenting about sites and blogs, if you post mob
URLs you send people straight into mobs, which adds a lot of value
especially when the site is a hot-button issue. For activist minded individuals, you can also think about mobbing your
adversaries. For example, if you are opposed to the actions of a certain
company, you can mob their web site, boo them, and encourage visitors to act
agaist them. Its an online protest. Here are some links for your reference:

There are many other social networks too. Here are a few.

It’s certainly not a question, but it seems more like an informerical than a suggest. I’m referring to the original post, not to tt’s reply, which all info with no merical.

The best way to get traffic to your site is to have content that will keep people coming back for more, and to sell yourself. You can be hosted by all the networks in the world, but if your content sucks you’ll get no where :)

True, content is the king and once you have content people will link to you and you need not bother to link to yourself at all these social networking sites :)

I added my blog to stumbleupon: http://www.stumbleupon.com and the number of visitors to my blog increased quite a lot. But, still haven’t had any comments though, so, hmmm, more work needed I guess!
