getting my custom domain
-
Hi,
I just set up a new blog, bought a custom domain, etc. Then realised that I should have used wordpress.org so I cancelled my upgrade and deleted my site…but now I don’t know how to get the custom domain so I can link it to my wordpress.org site…please can you help?
Thanks

This article will walk you through the steps of using your custom domain with another hosting service. Please let us know if you still have issues after working through this.

Thanks for this but I already cancelled the domain registration through wordpress.com so I no longer have access to transfer it…however, it’s not available to buy through other domain purchases, e.g. namecheap…could it still be in the wordpress system being cancelled?
-
The domain is probably still in limbo as you suggested. I would recommend checking back every day or two for it. It shouldn’t take too long for it to become available.

Sometimes the staff can retrieve a canceled domain name for you – depends on the timing – note that the Registrar is not required to release canceled domain names
I have flagged this for the staff to see if they can help you

Thank auxclass that would be really helpful, I wanted to get the website up ASAP…this is a painful lesson in knowing which type of wordpress site I want before I start!
-
A domain registered here will work with a WordPress.ORG install. Confusion about what version to use is common.
You be welcome
You will not be able to transfer the registration for 60n days (internet rules) but the name servers can be pointed to your new host so things should work fine
-
eek – 60 days is long…is there any way you can retrieve it and I will repay the cost and have it moved to ORG?
-
60 days is an internet rule – no getting around it for changing registrars – it’s a fraud prevention rule – but you just point the name servers to your new host and all should be fine –
If the name can be retrieved all should be fine – keep the faith

Oh wonderful! Thank you Chris!
How do I access it and the transfer it to my wordpress.org site (active here: agmrscholarship.co.uk). I’d prefer to use the dot.com domain
-
You’re welcome. :) You have a few options for pointing your domain to a different host:

Thanks Chris…however, since I deleted the blog that was linked to this domain I’m not sure how to access ‘My Domains’ if the blog is no longer there…can you help? How do I move the domain if it’s not linked to a blog anymore?
-
Please give it another try. I was able to restore your site, so you can access the dashboard, and have set that particular blog to private. That way, you can manage the domain, but people won’t be able to see the content of your now-defunct blog.
-
My login details are not being accepted…I’ve reset my password and can access all my other blogs…but it’s still not showing in ‘My Sites’…sorry Chris can you recommend something? Should I try account recovery form?
-
At this point, I would recommend using that form so that we can assist you further in private: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
