Getting my custom domain name back after cancellation?

  I just cancelled my domain upgrade within two days of registering/purchase. I did this because I want to transfer to a self-hosted server (actually, there’s no content in my blog yet, so I was expecting to just start over). Can I get my domain name back for use on a self-hosted WordPress site?

  Please keep in mind that cancelling (or not renewing) a domain means that you give up ownership of that domain name completely. There’s no guarantee that you will be able to register that domain again in the future, either here at WordPress.com or with another registrar.

  Currently is is listed with name servers as “suspended for spam and abuse” or something like that – that is the default for cancel the registration inside the 48 hour period – – depending on many things – the staff might be able to retrieve the registration for you – or you might need to wait a few weeks for the name to MAYBE be released to the wild where you can purchase it again

  It looks like your domain was canceled in under 48 hours, so it should be released automatically in the next week or so. If you are moving to a self-hosted site, I would keep checking it’s availability with your host until you can re-register it.

  If you want to recover it through WordPress.com we should be able to do that, but you would then have to wait for 60 days before being able to transfer it to your host. Let me know if you decide to go this route.

  i think what i’ll do is just keep checking back for the next week. It seems like that would be the easiest route to go although less certain.
