Getting my featured image to show up in facebook once I've shared a blog

This is what I keep getting after debugging so that my featured image shows up when I share a blog post on Facebook. I’m not understanding what else to do.

fb:app_id hasn’t been included in the meta tags. Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog. Otherwise, the default app id( 966242223397117 ) will be assigned.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Know that we have no control over the images that Twitter, Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.

So they suggested adding a facebook app id into the meta tags. How do I do that?

There is no metadata access to wordpress.com blogs for us bloggers.

Just in case there’s anything else that can be done, I’ll say that I am having the same problem. I did follow the WordPress Support page and Facebook Developers page. Even though I uploaded a 512px square image to both Gravatar and WordPress via the settings page for my blog picture/icon, the image that Facebook pulls is only 200px wide, and look low resolution in Facebook snippets, which now are twice that size. The message I get from the Facebook developer page is:

og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image ‘http://0.gravatar.com/blavatar/01b184bcb24dcec10256782527d24d42?s=200&ts=1452297689’ will be used instead.

I just wonder if anyone knows if there’s anything else I can do (adding a featured image to each post is not something I want to do).

@danielgreene, if there isn’t a featured image, generally the social media services will pull the first image they find in the content. If there are no images in the content, then they pull something else of their choosing.

@emfphotography15, the other thing that can cause the social services to pass up an image is if the original uploaded image happens to be large in file size. If I’m remembering correctly, they won’t pull anything over 1.5MB.
