Getting new widgets?
-
So I’m hosted on wordpress, not on my own site. Is it possible to get more widgets than what show up on the widgets page? I know there are lots of plug ins, but I can’t use those. I want more options than what I’ve got now.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use any widget that has pure HTML but you cannot use any widgets that contain restricted codes like iframes or JavaScript widgets.

Sadly you can’t “add a widget” to your blog. You can use a plain text widget and paste an HTML code into it.
I know there are lots of plug ins…
They are no Plug-ins available on WordPress.com. You can use plug-ins in WordPress.org project.
Hope that helped! :)

Oh joy. Code. I so hate code.
So I could try and write my own HTML widgets, which I’m horrible at, or I could go hunting for some already written?
And for the record, I knew I couldn’t use plugins on the WP.com site. Just wasn’t sure if there was an alternative.

I just found this thread while searching for a Pinterest widget for WordPress.com. Thanks for the info so far, but my quest has not ended. I followed the link from justpi. No mention of Pinterest.
Does anyone know if a widget exists that will work on a .com blog?
Thank you.

Yes. A text widget. Just write it yourself and paste the code into a text widget. Several people have done that already. If you want people to be able to pin individual posts from your blog, add the Pinterest button on your dashboard->settings->Sharing.

@musodumo
You cannot use the Pin-it Javascript code on a WordPress.com blog.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/You can put the code for the Pinterest follow button in a text widget.
1. Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy the code for it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/2. Then, go to your widgets > Appearance > Widgets and select a text widget.http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
3. Paste the Pinterest follow button code into the text widget, “save” the widget, “close” the widget and place it where you want it to display in your sidebar.

I’m hoping to cut DOWN on the number of accepted-wp.com-widgets on one of my wp.com blogs (which only has 1-sidebar & no footer) & would like to combine the html code for several widgets into one text widget instead (plus the fact there’s too much wasted space in between widgets when using separate widgets).
So, does anyone know what the html code is for the 2 RSS widgets & the Twitter widget, for starters? I can’t find an answer, so far, in the forums.
For example, if I have:
–Divider line (text widget)
–Image widget
–Text/info widget
–RSS widget
–Twitter widget
–Divider line (text widget)
>>>>That is 6 widgets. Whereas if I had the html code for the RSS widgets & the Twitter widget, I could put all 6 things into 1 text widget — & control the space between them. Not that there’s an election, but I’ll vote anyway for WP.com to please create a Help page that lists not only short codes but also an “html version”/code for every widget they offer. That would be soooo helpful for those of us with cognitive-coding-deficiencies. :)
Thank you!

How do you add the google calendar to the calendar widget? I found directions on Word Press, but the calendar widget doesn’t have a drop down arrow; now what?
