Getting one site to point people over to another

I’m trying to help a friend. She set up a site. Worked with it a while. Then forgot how to get into it and set up another, using a different email to set up a new account. Site 1 is actually the URL she wants to use since she’s told everyone about it, but every time we try to log into Site 1, her computer logs her into Site 2.

She’s elderly and most of the passwords for all of her daily tasks are saved on it. We are trying to not have to clear her cache and history.

So. I logged into Site 1 and pointed it at Site 2, so people trying to get to the original site are automatically moved to the new one. And that worked for a while.

Now Site 1 no longer moves people to Site 2. The settings are still correct.

Any idea what I can try next?

    Hi @jonya,

How nice of you to help out your friend with this.

If it was me, I would stop using two accounts and two sites. This is a brain twister even for young people, so I can only imagine how this would be for an elderly person. Remember that you don’t need to have two WordPress accounts to have two sites.

Since Site 1 is the url she’s been telling everyone about, I would start using only this. Since there is probably content on Site 2 that your friend would like to have on Site 1, I would export all of Site 2’s content, and import it to Site 1. Here are support articles for how to export and to import.

Next I would solve the issue of your friend logging into Site 2 when trying to log into Site 1. Are you sure these two sites are not on the same WordPress.com account? When you’re logged in to one of the sites, click on My Sites in the upper left corner of the screen. In the menu that appears, is there a link called Switch Sites?

If they’re not on the same WordPress account, it makes no sense that you’re getting to Site 2 when trying to log in to Site 1. Since you’re only having this problem on her computer, it sounds like her browser is preloading the log in details for Site 2 in the log in fields. Make sure this isn’t happening, and if it is, remove it and place the log in details for Site 1 before you hit the log in button. Let me know if you’re still having trouble with this. It should be an easy thing to fix =)
