Getting portfolio displayed as web page

  I’m using the Orvis theme which gives me portfolio templates. Here’s the issue, how to do get the website to display these portfolio pages as the web pages?
  At first, I created content in the pages section thinking they would look like the Orvis template…they did not. Content only looks like that template when created in the portfolio section.
  1. Do I need to trash all the content from the pages section to get the portfolio pages to come up as the website content?
  2. I’ve been trying to set one portfolio page as my home/static page but only drop down option is showing the content in pages section.
