Getting rid of a dead blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I ‘m hoping someone can help but I fear I know the answer

I’m the new Vicar with responsibility for StGrottys* (*name changed to prevent someone getting there before I do) and the person who set up the blog StGrottys.wordpress.com has left and we do not have contact details for them. We have tried resetting the password to try and trigger a notification on the account email to no avail.

I know WordPress won’t be able to grant me access to the blog as we don’t have any of the activation codes but given that it has been inert since 2012 would it be possible to mark it as ‘dead’ and get them to delete it??

I do hope you are able to help

    Blessings

    Rev Stephen Gardner

    Hello Reverend,

I’m tagging staff to help assist with the issue, please hold while they respond.

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure why you feel it’s necessary to obscure the name of the site in question – if it already exists no one else can get it, and we really need to know the correct address in order to accurately advise you.

That said, only a logged in admin on a site can delete it or take it offline. We never delete sites due to inactivity on WordPress.com.

If you want to try and regain access to the site in question, you can follow our account recovery process here:

    Hi there. its AllSaintsOwston.wordpress.com.

the old admin left several years ago as you can tell from the last site activity. the problem I have is that having inherited the problem I don’t have ANY of the necessary information to trigger a password change!

I’m guessing having followed your link that I have little hope!!!

    Still, I have hope

    Thanks

    Stephen

    Morning

I got a response from WordPress this morning with the standard responses of an activation link etc.

Sadly, as I’d told them, we don’t have any of that so I’ve asked for the blog to be made private!
