Getting rid of ads but keeping my same domain (e.g., mysite.wordpress.com)

I want to get rid of ads, so I want to upgrade to the Personal plan which will do that. However, it looks like upgrading will also allow me to use a personalized domain. While that NORMALLY would be great, I really want to stick to my current free domain name because I’ve already let a bunch of people know about that domain name. My question is: Can I update to the Personal Plan but decline the free domain name?
