Getting rid of blue top bar
-
How do I get rid of the bar at the top of my blog? I’m referring to the one that says “My Account”, “My Dashboard”, etc.
-
Your readers cannot see it and you cannot get rid of it. The only people who can see it are other wordpress.com bloggers, provided they are logged into wordpress.com at the time they are viewing it.
-
Precisely.
Though, to see your blog without the top bar, just use a different browser.
For example, Firefox is my main browser. So I use Internet Explorer to view my blog as a viewer would.
-
Um, actually the bar shows up (or it should show up) in all browsers. You just don’t see it if you’re logged in within that browser.
Staff has also said that we’re not to tell folks how to remove the blue bar and they consider it a ToS violation.

I didn’t like the admin bar at first, but have grown over time rather fond of it.
I note that there is a WordPress.com Bar Remover Greasemonkey script at:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3537
Note that I’m not recommending this script, I didn’t write it, I haven’t tried it, and probably never will try it. Also note that, being a Greasemonkey script, it’s specific to your Firefox browser, rather than to your blog or your more general surfing. -
Greasemonkey is pretty good, I use it for a variety of things.
Using a GM script to hide the blue bar is okay – it hides it for you and just you. It does not actually remove the bar, it doesn’t affect the blog and it changes no code.
It’s no different to running ad blockers or any of many Firefox extensions that can change what you see.Do remember that if you want to see changes that others do, just hiding the blue bar will not work – you need to do as Sulz says and log out.

My point was:
If you are logged in with Firefox…
Just open it in Internet Explorer, where you won’t be logged in.
This way, you can see the blog as a reader would (without the blue bar).
