Are you asking how to remove a header image?
Deleting Header Images https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-header-image/#deleting-header-imagesYou are running a very old retired theme. Themes are retired when they no longer support all wordpress.com features and the recommendation is to switch to another one.
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

No. I mean the header text box. I KNOW it can be deleted, but it’s a computer geek task and I don’t know how to do it. As for the theme. Love it. Want no other. I hate when people change things, thinking that everyone wants updates all the time. Nope. I’ll always be good with the old. None of the new, ugly themes fit me or what I’m doing.

You cannot remove or suppress the display of any theme element without purchasing an upgrade that provides the ability to edit the CSS.
We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.
Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions
See here for details on purchasing an annually renewable upgrade https://wordpress.com/pricing/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/Note 1: Once you have the required upgrade you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.
Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

I figured it out. Bwah-ha-ha! Right click on it….. inspect….. choose element….. right click that, and delete (POOF!). That was fun. Maybe I DO have a bit of geek in me!

Hi there,
Deleting the element in the browser inspector only deletes it in your browser, in that particular browser session. It doesn’t change the actual code of your website, and won’t change what anyone else sees. If you reload that page in your browser it will look again as it did before you made the changes via the inspector.
The only way to change the way your site looks is by using custom CSS as @timethief explained.
What exactly do you mean by “header text box”?
