Getting rid of front page (“Home”) – how to?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, re/ this blog: http://paulandclara.wordpress.com
I want to have a static starting page, which is: http://paulandclara.wordpress.com/living-history/
I’ve configured this under Settings as advised. Then I want a page for my posts, which I’ve called Posts (there’s just test content in there at the moment). How do I get rid of or make invisible the page that WordPress automatically calls ‘Home’. Right now the Home page shows the Living History page when you click it, and I don’t understand what the Support page is telling me about using Attributes to hide the default Home page (I’m slightly slow, sorry)..
    Thanx for help in advance
    Ursula

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A quick search of the forum and the support documentation will provide you with the answer. the answer is that some theme have “Home” or “Blog” or “Front Page” coded into the templates and they cannot be edited removed. The solution is to choose a theme that does not include this feature.

If you wish to have a static front page here’s the link to the instruction found in the support documentation http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

However, do note that blogs are designed to have dynamic and fresh front page contents because the most recent posts are expected to be found there by deliberate design. That’s where the vast majority of all search engine and reader activity takes place and it’s where the Google juice flows to.

By choosing to have a static front page you will cripple your blog’s ability to function as a blog is meant to function in terms of gaining search engine traffic, backlinks, Google juice and achieving a PageRank. By structuring a blog based on static page content rather than posts you will have a mock website. Websites do not get Google juice and backlinks and they do not have PageRanks.
