If you don’t want a Blog page you can set a static page as your landing page and then add further pages to a menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Hi @bucklerswhizz,

Sure, you can build a website according to your requirement. I am sharing a useful document related to this with a video tutorial that might help you understand things better.
Don’t worry if you do not get everything at first as you have just started with it. You can ask all your doubts on the support forum and go through it over time.

So, what you are seeing is a default demo post content. WordPress.com creates a dummy post when anyone creates a new site just to showcase a post content to start with on the website instead of an empty looking site. This does not mean that your website has become a blog. You can set up anything you want with this – a website, a blog or a website blog as described in the document I added above.
You will be able to find all the post content on your website here –
https://wordpress.com/posts/bucklersmeadacademy.wordpress.comYou can delete the demo post by clicking on the three dots at right side on the post. Please check this screenshot for visual – https://snag.gy/xd4CmO.jpg
It appears that WP free sites – default to BLOGS rather than websites ?
No, you can set up your website the way you want. You can start with these five steps that will get the framework of your new website all setup, leaving it ready for your great content.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/I hope that answers your queries.
Please feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
Best luck! :)Regards,
