  I am trying to build a website for a school – not a blog
  How do I get rid of the graphic with associated text ‘The journey begins’ ?
  I am just trying to obtain a blank page to start with
  I have tried SETTINGS – but can’t see the option

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  It’s the first post under Posts. Just remove it.

  If you don’t want a Blog page you can set a static page as your landing page and then add further pages to a menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

  Don’t worry if you do not get everything at first as you have just started with it. You can ask all your doubts on the support forum and go through it over time.

  So, what you are seeing is a default demo post content. WordPress.com creates a dummy post when anyone creates a new site just to showcase a post content to start with on the website instead of an empty looking site. This does not mean that your website has become a blog. You can set up anything you want with this – a website, a blog or a website blog as described in the document I added above.
