It’s not possible to access the database for your free hosted WordPress.com blog. It’s your content; you can do whatever you like with it. This support doc explains the various ways to transfer your content to another blog or platform http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Just a note from a never visit your site again person – nice pictures – but I clicked on 2013/06/low-light-photography.jpeg – took forever to load very large 22,912 px x 15,200 px scaled to 1,035 x 686 – very large and then wondered what the size was – turned out to be 48 mb when I saved it – very large pictures & slow load times are a turn off to casual visitors

For troubleshooting images here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/troubleshooting-images/
Prior to uploading any image into your blog, regardless if it’s a header image, a featured image, an image in a post or page, in a Post format (Gallery or Image), an image for sidebar display in an image widget or a text widget, you can optimize and re-size it in either a desktop image editing software or online image editing software to fit the space you intend to use it in. By undertaking proper image preparation first you will get the best image quality, won’t be wasting your media storage space, and won’t be wasting you time troubleshooting.
