Getting started?
-
Hello,
Sorry for such newbee questions. I need a jump-start to to get going with WordPress.
I currently have two large blogs on Blogger.com but I host them with my own domain name. I would like to convert everything to WordPress and continue to use my current URL.
1. Do I have to start a WordPress blog even though I will eventually have my own domain name on my server?
2. Do I have to start a WordPress blog in order to see the details of WordPress like templates and importing instructions? I ask because I don’t see the information I want after searching all over the WordPress site.
3. Is there a place on the WordPress site where I can get detailed instruction on how to import from Blogger, how to use my own URL, and how my WordPress blog will interact with my own URL, etc.?
Thanks a lot,
Bob

This will introduce you to some basic wordpress resources.
I would recommend that you carefully consider whether or not you wish to choose wordpress.com or to wordpress.org. The two run on different software. And at wordpress.com we cannot alter our templates as you did at Blogger. This will answer questions on editing templates at wordpress.com where your can upgrade to undertake css customization but cannot alter the underlying template code.
Here’s a pink sticky thread from the head of the forum called “please read me first before posting” that lays out the differences bewteen wordpress.com and wordpress.org which is for those who are prepared to self host or hire a web host. http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1Importing blogs thread from FAQs blog http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/import-from-blogger-typepad-mt-lj/

Thanks for the information. I think I need to focus on WordPress.org since I want to host my own blog with my own URL.
Thanks a lot,
Bob
