getting started

I want to map a domain. Not sure exactly how this works. I have just purchased a new domain about 10 days ago. I have been told I have to wait another 50 odd days before I can use my domain, which I am not happy about. In the meantime I have the nameservers pointing to the hosting company. What can I do now. I dont have £84 to pay in one go

  • Hi –

    That’s not true.

The domain is yours, and you can use it now, on whatever service you wish.

In order to use it at WordPress.com we require a plan upgrade be added to the account. Once that’s done, you can go to My Sites – Domains – Add to connect the domain through mapping. The full instructions are on this page:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

50 odd days before I can use my domain

This is an ICANN regulation that is being referred to. In order to transfer a domain registration from one party to another, the domain is required to be 60 days old. That’s regardless of where you registered the domain and where you want to transfer it to. There’s not any work arounds there.

Let me know if you have any more questions about the difference between mapping and transferring the domain or if you have any trouble getting set up.
