getting started
-
I just cancelled my hosting service elsewhere (webhostinghub.com) … WAY too many things did not work as they should have. That means I will need to rebuild my site. I have signed up for WordPress Premium which says I can use my own domain name instead of having the wordpress name in my URL. But now… how do I begin to build my site… every time I click on my blog, it simply directs me to the defunct Webhostinghub space.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there – Sure thing, I’m happy to help you out with this. You’ll need to change your domain’s name servers to point it here to WordPress.com. You have to do this through your domain registrar, so if you aren’t sure how to do it on their end, please contact their support.
You need to remove these name servers:
NS1.WEBHOSTINGHUB.COM
NS2.WEBHOSTINGHUB.COMAnd replace them with these:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMOnce you’ve done that, it can take a bit of time to take effect, but feel free to reply here and I’ll check to make sure you’ve set everything up correctly. :)

Just for clarity sake (as if being unclear would be okay??). .. Are you saying that there IS a way to have my website NOT hosted anywhere but wordpress.com and yet still have the address WITHOUT the wordpress.com name. So my site could be slowseat.com and yet be hosted on your (WP) servers … No webhosting hub… No blue host… No gators…. Can I ask… Are there good reasons NOT to take this option?.
PS I like your blog

Hi there – Yep, that’s exactly it! Your site would still be hosted here, but you’d just use your own domain with it. :)
Your domain will remain registered with your current registrar, and it’s $13.00 on our end to map it here, so every year, you’ll need to renew the registration with your registrar and the mapping with us. Let me know if you have any further questions about this.
And thanks for the compliment!

Okay… this is great. I am ready to make that switch. Several days into it, I am convinced that swithching to this WordPress.com option will be best. I am making the change with webhostinghub.com (the place my domain is registered). Then I think the Premium Package upgrade that wp.cpm offers makes the most sense.
Other than make the changes to the name servers and order the package, do I need to do anything else? Thanks again for your help… and for now making me feel like an idiot about all this. :-)

All done. Now when I type in the URL slowseat.com, I am sent to my slowseat.wordpress.com site. ( I can tell because of a color difference that is present on the wordpress.com site) Problem is that in the browser URL, it reads slowseat.wordpress.com. Will this change over time ??? … or will it always read wordpress.com??? (and should I care?)
thanks again for your help.

Hi there – You just needed to set the new domain to primary in Settings->Domains. I did that for you, so you’re all set with this now (you might need to clear your browser cache): http://slowseat.com/
Let us know if you need anything else getting started!
