  I would like to create a website for a community. Not so sure how to go about it for a beginner

  You can learn a lot from the WordPress.com Support pages, they offer great instructions for nearly everything. Here’s the getting started page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/

  You’ll need to decide whether you want a free domain (ends in example.wordpress.com) or a paid domain name (example.com).

  Once you’ve got a site with a domain, you’re ready to customize it. Go to My Site –> Themes and browse the themes. You can preview any theme, which is helpful for deciding which you’d like to apply to your website.

  By default, your site will display blog posts on its front page. If you want it to look more like a “traditional” site, you’ll need to set a static front page.
