Getting Started-Domain help

I work for a small business that is wanting me to do their website. He currently has a domain that has been released and is ready for us to take ownership. The domain currently is being created and managed on wix.com. I assume they are similar to WordPress. I need to know the steps I need to take to get it moved over here. I would prefer to keep the current website that is online now until I get this one the way we want it.
