Getting started for the first time.
-
Hello I am starting for the first time with word press I have an existing site with Yahoo. How long does it take to transfer an existing domain name. I want to be able to sell a few art prints with paypal. What would all this cost me. Is there any phone support at WordPress? I like being able to talk to a person. I was wondering if I should start this site up under a different name and then add my existing site and a later time once I got use to WordPress?

Hello @kusi18,
Firstly, its great you are considering WordPress.com for your site to come alive.
I will try my best to answer all your questions in order to help you get started.
How long does it take to transfer an existing domain name.
Provided you follow all the steps suggested in the Transfer a domain you already own to WordPress.com, your domain transfer will be in progress and should complete in five to seven days.
I want to be able to sell a few art prints with paypal.
Keeping in mind you choosing to transfer your domain over to WordPress.com, it is likely you will have an upgraded plan. I suggest you compare the plans & their features here to see which suits your business best. The Premium Plan upgrade allows you to use the Simple Payments button, which also works via PayPal:

Is there any phone support at WordPress? I like being able to talk to a person.
Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t have voice support currently. All support is done through online communication. You could also access live chat by going to My Sites → Help and clicking on Contact Us towards the bottom of the page. Fill out the form and click on Chat with Us underneath. This forum is a great place to start with your questions because of the number of experienced users here will be abundantly informative to you.
I was wondering if I should start this site up under a different name and then add my existing site and a later time once I got use to WordPress?
I would suggest the same! Its a great way to go about it. WordPress.com provides a free WordPress.com subdomain (example.wordpress.com/example.blog.com etc…) for you when you create your site with them. You can use that to build your site by choosing a theme, adding content etc.. and basically leave registering a domain name with WordPress.com or bringing in your existing domain over to WordPress.com until you feel ready to do so. In your case you will follow the above mentioned transfer your domain steps to accomplish this. This way your current site (if any) remains online while you are working on your draft site on WordPress.com.
I hope this was of help. Please feel free to write back if you have any more questions. Happy to help!
