Getting started – question about domain

    Hi! I’m working with a wildlife foundation that wants to change their current website substantially and move it from SiteGround to WordPress. They want to keep the same domain name, but during development I would like to have a version that does not use this name, but is hosted so that as I develop it I can let them try it out. What do you suggest? I haven’t yet purchased a plan to begin but intend to do so.

    Hi Clara,

    All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and the site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain.

    So you can experiment and build the site at that free address and even upgrade the site while still using the free address. Then you can switch the domain over to us only once you’re ready to launch the site.
