Getting started (re-starting) with blocks

Are there any basic tutorials, I’ve been using blocks for a little while, initially very excited about some of the functions. However I’m getting in a right pickle and finding it very unintuitive, I must be missing something obvious. I think starting from scratch with some of my pages is my only option.
