Getting the slider right on 'Sight'
-
I’m working on the Sight theme. I’ve managed to create a home page slideshow but it’s in a black frame not the wider format as featured. I made the images to the larger size indicated (290H x 640W pix.). Help appreciated to get the look featured.

Hello!
Your blog is marked private. I will mark this for staff follow-up. As you wait please consider the instructions for your theme:

Can you point me to the page on your site that has the Featured Content slider so I can take a look?

I want a slider that is the same as that shown on the Sight theme page: across the whole width. I want this on my Home page, which at the moment I have as a static page. [I’ve made a slideshow that appears with a black frame (now deleted) and on another page I made one with the random tile option with a white background – that’s fine. But I can’t work out how to get the style I want on my Home page.]
I’ve tried, as per a previously answered Q, to mark images as Featured – but I only seem able to have one at a time. I can’t find any part of the menu to mark an image as sticky- also suggested. When I tried changing the static home page to ‘post’ the images, a load of content from elsewhere jumped into what was the Home page, so that’s no good either and in any event, I really only want a static home page, but with a slider as shown on the theme page. Is this possible and can you provide instructions to achieve this?
Thankyou -
Hi there,
The featured slider in the Sight theme is designed to appear on your blog page. If you’re using the blog page as your front page (like in the Sight theme demo) you’ll see the slider on your front page, but there isn’t a way to add that slider to a static front page.
To set up the slider on your blog page, you can publish new blog posts. To have the post appear in the slider, add a Featured Image to each post and mark it as a sticky post.
However, since you mentioned you’d prefer a static home page, that won’t work for your front page. I’d recommend using a slideshow or gallery, instead.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Many thanks for your response. I will have to compromise or re-arrange my front page then.
I have sorted out various galleries on other pages and they appear Ok. But could you say why I’m still getting a black ‘screen’ on a slideshow, when I have ticked ‘white’ on the Appearance/Media section? Can I not get my images to show on a standard slideshow without them being in a black screen?
Apart from that, I think I’m almost there.
Thanks again -
The white background color setting under Appearance > Media is specifically for image carousels, which is what you see when you click on an image in an image gallery. That setting doesn’t apply to image slideshows, which will always have a black background.
