getting traffic to your blog

  • Unknown's avatar

hi, was just wondering if any one had some good ideas or some good sites that generate free traffic to your site …

I don’t know if this really helps to answer your question, but I ping a number of free ping services each time that I post a new article:

    Furl
    Automatic
    Pingoat
    Blogflux
    Ping-O-Matic
    Ice Rocket
    Feed Burner
    delicious
    Technorati
    Sphere

And then I manually submit the post (with good tags) to Google and Yahoo.

Also free submission to search engines and directories:

    Selfpromotion.com

Finally, you can submit short summaries of postings to Digg and write/submit articles to Newsvine.

Hope that this might be of some help to you !!

    (1) All wordpress blogs are set up to automatically ping through pingomatic. Ping-O-Matic is a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated. If you look at this page then you will see that all of the search engine services listed there are pinged for us through pingomatic every time we publish a post http://pingomatic.com/

    (2) drmike has a blog that gives lots of good ideas for promoting your blog http://pimpmyblog.wordpress.com

    (3) The forum search box is full of threads stating the same strategies more than once and few if any that are in addition to what you find in the blog link I put in (2).

delicious is on the pingomatic ping list? That surprises me.

  • Unknown's avatar

Says who? Or shall I say: where do you see that? I don’t see delicious on the list.
Compare embedded’s great list above with the pingomatic list and note the rss subscription chiclets that drmike made up for placing in a text widget and you’re ready to go.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, when you said “this page” I thought you were referring to embedded’s list on this page, not the page you linked to. My mistake.

I don’t do the delicious thing, nor the digg thing, because unless I”m mistaken those are yet two more things you’ve got to sign in for and manually update every damn post, and I’m just too lazy to do that.

Or am I confused instead of lazy and not understanding what you’re saying?

  • Unknown's avatar

Nope. You’re not confused. And I don’t have the time, energy or inclination to keep up with social network memberships either. Joined delicious, imported bookmarks and that was that. I kept forgetting to tag everything a second time. Joined digg commented on bitacle and that was that. I don’t have time to even read what’s going on there. In fact I haven’t enough time to keep up with earning an income, my end of relationships with the people in my everyday life, and the local organizations I belong to. So manually updating every post at multiple locations just isn’t going to happen with me.

dang! I forgot to post this earlier in the first response I made http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/28/update-pings/

    Question:
    When using pingomatic to submit
Does that work without having to install
    the snippets ie technorati?
    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

You can install the technorati snippet so the spiders locate you and after that it’s automatic. Here’s the instructions http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/22/how-do-i-embed-technorati-code/

  • Unknown's avatar

You don’t need the Technorati snipplets to get your blog to show up. I would create an account there though and claim your blog. I think that does help.

Also, try the new URL changing feature. Andy and the gang switched my URL from http://raincoaster.wordpress.com to raincoaster.com and I got a snotload of new hits.
