Ghost of original home page

  I deleted the original home page when I went over to static but it appears on entry to the blog nonetheless. When I click on it the new home page appears and all is well. All suggestions so far (custom menus, page widgets etc) have proved fruitless because I have no way of identifying or accessing it. If no one can tell me how to either get rid of it or link the new one to the opening then I’ll have to assume I’ve broken it and will abandon the blog. Thanks
