GIF images load but JPG do not
-
In a post I inserted a GIF and a JPG image (to get an opinion from a colleague as to which she preferred on a page.
Here is the post.
http://confederationtales.com/2010/09/18/5-2/I also insert both of them on the page in question.
http://confederationtales.com/confederation/I also tried inserting the JPG in a separate page to see if multiple images in the same post/page was the problem. The JPG still does not display.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I also tried a 2nd JPG. It displays OK.

So what is the difference between this and the following JPG, which does NOT display?
-
The difference is that at the moment the image is missing from the original page as well.
And anyway the footer of the site expressly states that “Images, code and content of this website are property of Geology.com. Use without permission is prohibited.”

Thanks, Panos. How much clearer things are when one is not too tired to work well!
A review of permissions might be in order here. Normally images from NASA are available to the public for use both personal and commercial. After all, the public paid for the images. But NASA (and some other government agencies) do retain SOME rights, among them the right of attribution.
For a fuller description of those rights go to the JPL NASA statement of those rights.
http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/imagepolicy/
In this particular case, however, Geology.com uses a service called Copyscape to prevent the embedding of references – perhaps illegally so. They cannot abrogate the legally asserted rights of NASA and other government agencies.
In any case, the same or a similar image is available on NASA sites.
Many thanks for checking this out. I appreciate the work of people like you.
