Gif or video for header image

    How does this work and is it dependent on theme? Can I just insert a gif I make or even a video into the current theme I have? Someone mentioned adding some video that is why I wonder if it is possible and if it is theme dependent.

    Hi there,

    Videos can only be set as the site header in themes that specifically support that feature.

    You can see the themes on WordPress.com that support video in the header or featured content area here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/feature:video

    You should be able to set a GIF as a header image, but I wouldn’t recommend it – GIFs don’t work properly if they need to be resized, and most WordPress themes, including all offered on WordPress.com, resizes header images depending on the screen size of the device being used to view the site.
