Gifs are not working on my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Gifs from pinterest will no longer function on my blog. I was told that Pinterest changed the format, but when I copy one from pinterest and paste it onto my word doc, the GIF works fine. Its only in Wordspress that it does not work. Can this be fixed or not? also i tried every way that a few people on the forum suggested and nothing works. Even when I post a picture…and it shows on my post..once that post is public..the image disappears and there is just a line there. Its frustrating.

  • Hi there!

From @supernovia’s previous reply, this is what works when copying the gifs from Pinterest:

    – copying the image url & pasting it on its own line
    – typing /image and using “insert from url”
    – saving the image, and dragging it into the editor window

Can you please try each option and let us know how it goes?

Yes I tried each option offered and none worked. I was able to copy image and paste on a word doc…and the gif worked. I did not have any problem with this issue in WordPress until 6 days ago. Something has changed in WordPress. When I insert any picture it does a buffering type of action and then the picture shows up but I noticed then after I post the page…the picture is gone.
I am frustrated with all this and it dies not bring a joyful experience.
    Thank you

  • Hi @lifebloomingrose,

Could you please share some example links of GIF’s that you’re trying to use from Pinterest?

I have done this 3 times already. It is a problem within WordPress. I need someone to actually look at settings there. Every single picture or GIF that I insert..does this buffering effect and then some just vanish while all gifs do not work. Not just from Pinterest. And yet they all work on my emails..on word docs…on Facebook.. all work..but none work on WP..

  • Hi there,

To clarify, are you using the Pinterest URL or the actual gif image URL? You will need to use the latter for the above three suggestions to work. I just tried it on my test site and they all worked perfectly without issue:

    Hello
I did both ways..none are working.
I am sure sdomething is wrong with a setting on my blog site, I have used pictures and gifs for years on wordpress and never had a problem. I do not know anything else to do but take my site down and start a new one. Something changed a week ago..and now everything that i paste in there does this “buffering” thing then the image shows up. But gifs do not function and some pictures do not show up after I go public with my post. I am shattered
    Thank you

  • What is the URL of a Pinterest GIF you’re trying to share?

Neither one of these urls work on my blog site.

  • Hi there,

Both of those are Pinterest post URLs, not image URLs. If you paste either of those they’ll embed the Pinterest post, not the actual image, and how that embed behaves depends on what data Pinterest sends us for that link.

To embed the actual image you want a URL that ends in .gif, and the only way to get that is to right-click the image, and select Copy image link/URL. In this case the link to the GIF image itself is https://i.pinimg.com/originals/64/fc/59/64fc59b174d5b6b87c1e17b67d28f537.gif, and if you paste that into the editor or into an image block, the GIF will show on your site as expected.

If your intention is to embed the Pinterest post itself, you should be using the Pinterest embed block, not the image block. Then it will look something like this:

    https://d.pr/i/MWANPg

Even when I post a picture…and it shows on my post..once that post is public..the image disappears and there is just a line there. Its frustrating.

    Do you mean like https://redthornrosegarden.home.blog/2022/02/23/reminder-96/?

It looks like that file never finished uploading.

When you add an image directly in the editor, it takes a little time for the image to upload to your media library. That’s the “buffering effect” you described above. Make sure that process completes before you click the Publish button on the post – it looks like something perhaps interrupted the image fully uploading to the library in this case, and that’s the most likely reason I can think of.

Yes that’s exactly it. When I right click there is no option to copy url..only copy image and I have ALWAYS clicked copy image. And always saw .gif in the url.
All of these gifts work on facebook..emails..Facebook. docs..so it’s not my computer.. it’s not pinterest..it’s WordPress settings on my site. Something changed.
Also..that loading buffering action started when the pics and gifs issues started.
I do not post till everything is loaded. And yes like the example above..the bottom picture was there before I posted. After the post, the picture was gone and that box was there.
    Thank you

  • The exact instructions on copying the image URL or link will depend on your browser. Here is more information on finding it, depending on the browser you use: https://www.lifewire.com/copy-image-web-address-url-1174175.

Could you give that a try and let us know?
