GIFs not playing on posts

    The last several GIF image files I’ve tried to post on my blogs aren’t playing once I upload them. They usually play fine within the post when I insert them as I’m writing, but when I go to preview the post and when I complete the posts and publish them, the GIF just sits there as a still image and won’t play. I can’t think of a good reason why this is happening. This should be a basic function of the site, and I’ve had GIFs work before. I tried looking at my most recent post on a completely separate computer and a different web browser, and it wasn’t working there either. What could the problem be? And it isn’t that the files are too large.

    Hi there,

    For GIFs to animate, they have to be embedded at full size for their original size.

    The original GIF is here:
    http://biggiesplace.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/get-off-the-streets.gif

    If you check that out, it totally works.

    But when it’s embedded, it has to be re-sized to fit the width – see the URL difference here:
    http://biggiesplace.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/get-off-the-streets.gif?w=500&h=281

    If the original GIF was smaller in width, it would work fine. It’s a restriction of GIFs themselves, not something we impose, I’m afraid.
