Gift Registry on Wedding Website?
-
I have been planning to set up a wedding website, but mainly because I want to have a custom-made gift registry. That is, I want to post pictures of things my fiance and I would like, or a simple description of the item (for example: nice linen queen size bed spread) with possibly a link here and there. Ideally, the guests should be able to indicate an item as ‘bought’ so that nothing is bought twice. Unfortunately, roaming the net, it doesn’t seem like WordPress has a plugin or wizard that?

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot intsall plugins, upload third-party themes or edit templates or themes. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

You can create a contact form > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

WordPress.COM has no plugins at all. But there’s nothing preventing you from posting pictures and linking to stores (as long as it’s not an affiliate link) and having your friends post “PURCHASED” as a comment when and if they purchase it.

If you can create a Gift Registry somewhere else online then what you can do is create a custom menu on your blog and add a custom link to the site as a custom menu item.

Timethief – thanks so much for all the options. I guess I’m computer illiterate because I don’t understand them all haha but I’ll check it out. I looked at the contact form but am not sure how that would work.
I will search for a Gift Registry elsewhere to insert it into a post on WordPress – googling it, it seems like a lot of people have this problem though.Raincoaster – thanks for the suggestion. Definitely an option if all else fails. ;-) Just didn’t want every gift to be in a different post, that’s why I didn’t really want to go for that option.

You won’t be able to insert it. It will almost certainly be javascript or iframes, and stripped out. But you can use a Custom header to link to it.

I googled “free online wedding gift registry” and got lots of results. You cannot embed anything like that into your blog. You can create the registry online and include a custom link to it in a custom menu.
