It is normal to see an address like gillmansfielddotcom.wordpress.com when you are looking at admin pages, but on the front end it should eventually redirect to the custom domain. Brand new domains take a little time to start working, so it may have been you just didn’t wait long enough for it to start working before.
It’s worth noting that gillmansfielddotcom.wordpress.com and gillmansfield.wordpress.com are two separate blogs and the custom domain gillmansfield.com is mapped to gillmansfielddotcom.wordpress.com
If anyone tries to look me up I really want it to read under construction whilst I set up my website, I am not ready to operate a blog yet, can you help with this please?
One possible solution could be to make the older blog you setup private. You can do that by going to https://gillmansfield.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php and changing the “Site Visibility” option.
After that, to get started creating posts on the new blog, go to https://wordpress.com/posts/gillmansfield.com
