Girly Themes?

For all of those bloggers who want to have “girly” themes on their blogs, here’s the link to the wordpress theme viewer so you can see the selections and make choices from them http://themes.wordpress.net/

@raincoaster
My intention was to tell the party who is inclined to try to mind Matt’s business for him to shove off. My position is: let the battles over at wordpress.org stay there. They are not our concern at wordpress.com. -
Hi,
I am creator of Frozen Garden..Both links in footer of Forzen Garden are links of reputed Web Directories, links are not to casino, pharmacy related sites.
Thanks,
Saad -
Also, i am not coder , so i sold footer links to cover up the coding costs.I only place 2 links in my wp themes and only to reputed sites not spammy sites and of course no hidden links in Theme.I hope you will understand Matt!

That’s not the issue. The issue is that it’s a sponsored link to outside businesses. If they were to be added here, it would be the same as saying that Automattic was being sponsored as well.
-
I think 2 footer links should not be a problem for users.Anyway, i will try to learn coding and will release themes with DESIGNERS links only….

Well, that’s your opinion. Wasn’t talking about end users either but with Automattic and legal issues on their end. If they were to add in your theme, they would be giving approval to those links.
Anyway, i will try to learn coding and will release themes with DESIGNERS links only….
If you know how to place a advertising link in a footer, you know how to place a designer link.
-
So bassically you mean designers should work hard on themes and release them without any links
Anyway i am out of this thread now.. -
Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.
What he’s actually saying is that when you sell links, you reduce the number of organizations who will want to carry your product. Simple as that. If you’re going to fiddle with the marketing, you’re going to realize very quickly that some things reduce the marketability of what you have done.
-
Well now that this little interlude has taken place the likelihood of the theme being introduced has diminished so I have nothing to lose.
When I requested this theme I knew the following:
(1) If Matt chooses to adapt this theme to run on wordpress MU he is in not legally bound to retain the commercial links in the footer.(2) The designer did not specify a CC-license and did not claim that the sponsor links in the footer could not be removed when he submitted the “free” theme to wordpress.
(3) The designer said he hired a coder for his themes and was covering his costs. And since he’s already covered them, he doesn’t need the footer links anymore.
(4) If Matt so chooses to adapt the theme to run on wordpress MU and chooses to leave the links in the footer no follow tags could be inserted.
(5) Lastly even if the theme were adapted to run on wordpress MU and footer the links were left in place they could be “masked” through css customization.

Much like some of us work hard in the forums here without any pay either. :)
For a time, they were discussing removing them from the theme website. While I don’t have an issue with them, I think there should be a tag over there stating that they have paid advertising in the design which was another suggestion made.
Troubles me grately actually that themes are being uploaded to the themes site without stating that they contain advertsing. In that case, it does make it sneaky when it’s not declaired.
And, no, that’s not what I said. What I actually said was that you misread what I wrote.
release them without any links
And considering that wasn’t what i said, you just did it again.
I can point at hundreds of theme designers who release their themes without such links.
I have no problem with links in a footer. I think the developer’s link should be in the footer. Ditto on WordPress’ as well. If you want to add in paid sponsor links to your themes, go for it. It’s up to you. Just try to understand that, as rains points out, fewer folks are going to use your theme.
But anyway, as TT says, lets move on.

Okay now I can look up and fight to focus so I can see what you have written.
We aren’t at odds at all.(1) I believe that the designer’s links do belong in the footer and that if and when the theme is modified then attribution should also be placed there for the designer who did the modification. And I also believe that Powered by WordPress belongs in the footer.
(2) You and I agree that any designer has the right to submit a theme with paid sponsor links but when doing so that designer ought to recognize that doing this will reduce the marketability of the theme.
(3) You and I agree that when themes are being uploaded with commercial links in the footer written notification of their existence ought to provided and posted.
(4) Of course designers work hard on themes and their contribution of them to the wordpress community is equivalent to the contribution of those of us who work hard in the forums without any pay either.
-
I wish there were a standard for sponsored links, like they all display in puce or something like that to differentiate them from regular links
-
I agree that there should be a different category for Sponsored Themes.I hope Matt will add sponsored themes category isntead of deleting all sponsored themes :(.
-
Given the stand WordPress has taken against the bloggers themselves putting advertising or sponsored links on their blogs, I’d guess it’s doubtful that WP.com will enable templates with sponsored links, ever.

@saadahmed
I have made both my admiration of your theme and my desire to use it on my new blog for which I have purchased a domain clear. And you have made your desire that the theme be chosen clear as well. But now is the time for us to recognize why this thread was posted, to give way, allow the theme suggestion process to move forward, and allow to Matt to make his decisions. This thread was a long awaited opportunity for all those wordpress.com bloggers who wish to see new “girly” themes introduced to suggest them to Matt. And whenever conflict exists it stifles input.
I’m respectfully requesting that we move on now and allow other bloggers to bring forward their suggestions for other themes in an environment that is conflict free.
