Girly Themes?
-
Cherry Blossom is nice; I like that the blog posts appear quite close to the top of the page.
-
I kind of like Cherry Blossom too. But I’m prejudiced because Sumei brush painting is how I make my living. Cherry blossoms, orchids and bamboo, etc. are traditional subjects. The style of painting is a less is more style based on economy brush strokes. But the theme lacks some of the functionality features I’m looking for.
-
I like the wideness of Cherry Blossom, but the incorrect display of child categories & pages turns me off. If i have bothered to make child categories, i want them to be shown as such.
It is a beautiful theme, though.

Here are some more considerations
springflower 1.0
pink beauty 2.0
summer 1.0
emerald 1.0 -
I have been looking around for some girly themes and reading this discussion.
All of the themes up for consideration are good in their own way. I honestly cannot choose a favorite. My preference is for 3 or 4 column themes simply because of the way my brain works. -
I also prefer a 3 column theme like Summer 1.0 but would also like a customizable header Currently we have only 4 three column themes and none of them allow for a customized header.
-
I am glad you brought up the issue of a customizable header. I agree with you. That is also my preference.
-
Have you found any 3 column themes that don’t look like business themes and that could have a customizable header?

Right amount of pink, well balanced black and white…. total beauty: Japanese Cherry Blossom 1.0 Not sure it can be called “girly” though… but Yin yes! Very yin!

Ooops… sorry, here’s the link http://themes.wordpress.net/columns/1-column/499/japanese-cherry-blossom-10/ :)

@millaq
Japanese Cherry Blossom is a variation on the Hemingway Theme. It shows only excerpts from 2 pages on the front page and does not have a full compliment of widgets. The branch is pretty though.@crysacraig
There is a really nice book theme that wank has already ported for ccs customization that you make like The Literary Life http://ntuat.wordpress.com/2006/08/05/hello-world/You may like to check here for other choices http://themes.wordpress.net/

TT, I know it’s a variation of Heminway, a beautiful one indeed… I think it could still work for some of the users. :-)
On the other hand, I refuse to agree on the “girl”=PINK equation!!!! I’ve seen very “feminine” themes that are blue or even black… very chic! ;-)
-
As for Hemingway, it seems some people love it. But IMO It will never become popular as it displays very little on the front page and that’s where the content for google ranking is determined.
No one contributing to this thread expects you to go with “pink”. I personally do not like that colour. If you check the links for the themes others have posted you will find they are not all pink; they range in colour.
The themes I prefer tend to be soft green. I also am looking for a 3 column theme with a customizable header.
-
There are a *lot* of “modified hemminway” themes that show the full first post and then having all kinds of stuff in the bottom bar. That’s kind of what i’m doing at http://engtech.wordpress.com now — only showing the first post on the front page (yay CSS upgrade)
-
TT, I know you like beige-soft green! So do I. :-) I’m with you on the Glued Ideas one, nice typography design. I like Sakura overall design (even being pinky) but the font is too large… And too little blank space.
Eng, yes, I’ve seen some. In fact, I liked very much a very “crazy” dark blue one, I think it was water… something, I lost it, but I couldn’t make my mind on wether it could be girly enough to bring it here, ha ha. I wish I could use in my blog one of them (I really, love Hemingways) but they definitely require a kind of different way of organizing your blog and your thoughts too! :-)
What I can’t live without in a blog?
1. Beauty. (As subjective as this may be).
2. Nice/clear tipography.
3. Balance between elements and blank space.
4. Widgets/options.All the rest is dispensable, IMO.

crysacraig:
I like the idea of a book theme too – what do you think of this one.. i quite like it though I’d prefer a darker colour background rather than the blue myself (like purple!)

I think that one would be very cool with a fixed (nonscrolling) background image instead of the solid colour.
-
I like that one shadowartist.
It’s simple. It’s definitely something I’d use on my ESL blog.
I need to go through this thread and that theme site and compile a list of the themes I like and the reasons.
*adds to the to-do list*

After viewing 180 pages on the Theme Viewer… I got two more. Girly, elegant ones. Matt, please please add one of these!!!!
Mukkamu 1.2 and/or VSPink 1
Know nothing about code and plugins, but they are beautiful! Hope they would work…. :-)
