Give LINKS widget its own heading for multiple “sections” headings?

    Hi all,
on my old blogspot site I used multiple LINKS widgets to navigate readers to my main posts (which I was using as a form of “pages”).

    http://eclipsenow.blogspot.com/

See how I use multiple LINKS widgets to group my pages in neat little boxes? “Peak oil summary” has my pages on Peak oil, Why now, governments admit it, etc…. it was a handy and fast way to direct readers with ONE CLICK rather than grouping all my posts under a page, which means 2 clicks.

(One click to get to the page on peak oil, a second click to get to the post which has been linked to from that page).

    Any ideas?

OK, I understand it now but it is very kludgy!

    Why “Categories” at all?

Why not just allow multiple links boxes with different headings?

Why have “Categories” sorted by alphabetical order or ratings or other things, and not also have an option to just “drop and drag” the individual links into the order in which you want them? What if I don’t want them sorted alphabetically or by the order in which I create the links… what if I add one in later that I want at a certain point, but is not in alphabetical order or the order in which I added it? Very, very complicated and kludgy. Even having a LINKS widget that you click on and it cannot be ordered is kludgy… having the button you click separate to the links widget is kludgy.

I suggest someone plays with blogger’s links function and sees how easy it is to add and edit links, especially moving the link “up or down” in the list.

Don’t tell me I have to put NUMBERS in front of my links to get them in the right order? That’s just ugly!

You can do one of two things. Use one links widget and categorize your links and set the links widget to show all links. It will then put the links under category headings in the widget.

Use a links widget for each category and select the category to be displayed in each widget from the pulldown. This is something people had been asking for since many want to place certain categories in one place on a sidebar and then place others in a different location such as in a second sidebar.

Links will always be arranged alphabetical. There is no setting to change that.

Isn’t there a way I can just “drag” a link up or down in my list?

But there are no multiple links because the theme I have only allows it to drag across once? I don’t understand, because also when I click on the drop down menu it says the links widget says:

There are no options for this widget.
    Remove | Close

Hmmm, I just checked my test blog with the theme you are using and your are right. Chaoticsoul doesn’t have the options either. Cutline, Springloaded and Sandbox do though.

You might want to contact staff on that and ask them why. I was under the impression that all the theme had the new links widget.

I rename the text midget, and move the links around within that.

That is a solution. Put your links into a text widget and then you could title them and arrange them in any order you wished. All that is required is a little HTML and you could even do the links in the visual post editor and then switch to the HTML tab, copy the code and then paste it into the text widget.

YES! Thanks guys. Text widget it is! Sorry if I sounded cranky, but this was a bit kludgy for WordPress, which generally I’m starting to like more and more. I’ll switch to the Text widget asap. Phew! Glad I asked in here.
