Give my account to someone else

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have not been managing this website but have been paying for it for years. I have a friend who wants to take over managing/paying it. Can I somehow ‘transfer’ it to him, including the upcoming renewal payments? thanks much.

    Hi,

Please read this document to find out if it helps you with transferring your account to another person.

… but have been paying for it for years

Hi there, what’s the address of the website involved?

If you are logged in to a WPcom account that has a site with an upgrade, your question would have been routed to Support rather than here to the community forums, which helps WPcom users with their free websites. Perhaps you need to be logged in with a different WPcom account?

Let us know so we can make sure you are getting the correct support.

Hi @ryrhino00 if you see the tag wpcomhelp on a forum thread, that indicates their question was routed from the Contact Us form to the forums. Also I think you might have meant to share this link, which is only relevant for WPcom sites https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

    What does this mean?

Yes I did give the wrong link

I mean what is the difference of where a person contacts the forum or the Contact Us form?

    Why does that matter?

@ryrhino00 you are right that anyone can access or post directly to these support forums without going through the contact support form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact If they post directly in the forums you won’t see the wpcomhelp tag in the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar.

However, the help buttons in your dashboard (the question mark), in the support documentation, theme showcase and the like, all lead to the support contact form. The information shared there from a user who has a free WPcom website is generally routed to the public forums and the tag wpcomhelp is automatically added to their thread.

Otherwise, there is no difference to posting directly in the community forums, but if you see that tag, it gives you a little bit more information about the user (besides looking at their profile to see if they’ve asked other questions or are a new user) that can help you provide relevant information.

So when @seatoland said they’d been paying for their website for years, but their forum thread was tagged with wpcomhelp, that raises a question of whether they’re logged in with the right account (one that would have been directed to LiveChat/Email support instead of the forums) or even if their site is hosted here on WPcom. This is another reason to ask for the address of the site they need help with, even if you provide them with an answer that would be relevant only for sites hosted on WPcom.

    Hope that helps.
