Giveaway?

Has anyone held or considered a giveaway? If you have, how did it go? When is a giveaway appropriate? How much money did you spend on it?

I was thinking of picking up some local handicrafts (nothing too expensive) on my next trip and hosting a giveaway. The ‘Share this post’ to enter kind. I’m not sure if it’s appropriate/wise/feasible.

Anyone with some insight into this?

I didn’t find a good way to host giveaways on wp.com but requested giveaway features as well. Nothing happened so far.

having a giveaway is actually a good idea. I am currently thinking of that at the moment, I’d love to try it tho.

You cannot use rafflecopter for giveaways on a WordPress.COM hosted blog. However, there’s a post about Giveaways on WordPress.COM blogs that includes some suggestions for how to manage them in the comment thread: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/12/13/blog-giveaways/ Does this help? You can use inlinkz.

No. This does NOT help. Rafflecopter actually states that we just need to get a widget and it will work fine. You (timethief) have been posting this EXACT message for over a year now linking to a comment thread that is not helpful.

The Rafflecopter widget won’t work with WordPress.com as it requires the use of javascript which isn’t allowed for security purposes.

There’s an article about it in their knowledge base.

It sounds like you can link to a landing page on their site from a link or text widget though, so there is a workaround if you’re set on using Rafflecopter.

The links in Timethief’s reply, while a few years old now, give you a general overview on doing giveaways on your blog.

It’s interesting how you understand why Rafflecopter would indeed currently not work. But then it’s even more interesting that you didn’t notice that this sub-forum has the label “ideas”.

Did you know that you are posting in an idea forum? Just wondering.

I tell you something. If wp.com would decide to implement it, it would work to use Rafflecopter. That’s the only real point about this forum, posting suggestions or ideas.

Oh I know which forum I’m in, I was just trying to make sure everyone was on the same page. An earlier commenter had posted that it would work fine with a widget, which (as you’re aware) isn’t currently the case.

I also wanted to mention the workaround that Rafflecopter explained in their knowledge base because it can take a while for suggestions to get implemented (if they ever do) and it’s nice for other people who might stumble onto this thread to have some options they can work with immediately, rather than just adding their vote to the list and being patient.
