glitch causes overwritten post
-
Hi, I pressed the ‘New’ button to write a new post, wrote a new post, and once it was published, the ‘new’ post had taken over the URL, comments, and spot of my previous post. Also, though I had written a new message for the linked Twitter post, no new Tweet was posted, and the Tweet from the last post (January 6th) goes to the ‘new’ post from today. Is there anyway to fix this and get back the old post?!

You’re the second person who’s reported this error in the past two days, so there’s a bug somewhere. I flagged this for staff attention.
Meanwhile, check your Revisions and you can probably find the original text and restore it.
I had this yesterday when I had two drafts open on different tabs. It was ugly. UGLY.

Hi Buffy,
I’m sorry for the trouble! Can you let me know what page you were on when you pressed the “New” button? And which button did you press? (Was it the pencil icon in the admin bar at the top of the screen, or a different one?) That will help me track down what’s going wrong there.
To fix the posts you wrote, you can head to Posts > All Posts in your site’s WP Admin dashboard. From there, you can click the “Edit” link for the new post. In the Publish module there, you can check the Post Revisions to find the post that was overwritten and restore it.
Then, you can create a new post with the contents of the second post you wrote. When you publish that as a new post, it will send out a new tweet and create it separately from the first one.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

The button was the pencil icon in the admin bar. I was able to restore the previous post through the revisions and create a new post through copy and pasting. Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know, Buffy! We’ll investigate the glitch you experienced with that button to see if we can sort it out. If there’s anything more I can do, just let me know. :)
