Hi There,
I currently have a domain from Go daddy which is live with my website and I would like to create my website with WordPress but keep my domain name.
I understand that .com.au is not transferable to wordpress.com however, am i able to create a new webiste? Do i need to download https://en-au.wordpress.org/ to get it working? Not sure how what my options are with a .com.au domain
Thanks and kind regards,
David

Hi ,
based on your inputs, you have several options:
1. You can either map your existing domain to wordpress.com or you can opt for the transfer of the domain to wordpress.com. This link will explain you the difference:https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/
a) mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
b) transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/2. You will also need a plan according to your requirements of the site. Please see the different plans, its features comparison and pricing here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/3. If you want to use free wordpress.org, http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only.
You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
Hope the above helps.
Cheers !!

Hi! Just clarifying one thing, you are correct that .com.au cannot currently be transferred, as it’s not on this list:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-pricing-and-available-tlds/But it certainly can be mapped. Mapping is free with all of our paid plans. You would just keep the domain renewal paid for separately, through your current provider.
Also, you could install the free WordPress software with another host if you prefer. That’s separate from our services, which include hosting, security, SSL, support, spam filtering, and many other features. You can read about the differences here:
Hoping this helps!
