Go To 1st Post?
-
Is there a widget or a method for allowing blog viewers to go directly to the fist post in the blog? Thanks. – John
-
Yes, it’s possible.
You can use the Text Widget, and then enter the text and link that you want.
If you’re unsure about how to create the link, here’s the support documentation for it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/text-widget-links/ -

I was able to create a text widget that linked to my first post. Thank you.
Operationally it works, but aesthetically, it’s not what I want. Live & learn. What I want now is a link from a menu to the first post. Imagine a menu item named: “1st Post”. Clicking that would do the same as the widget.
Well I tried to do this. I created the menu. I created a page. I created a post. I plunked the HTML code hither and yon. Nothing came out right. The closest I got was a two-step connection to the 1st post. Not what I want for my readers.
If you know a simple & direct way of linking to the first post from a menu, I’d love to give it a try. Thanks. – John

fabini.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Exactly what is the URL of the blog you are referring to please?
Create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Then add the post link for the 1st post into it as a custom link http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links -
From the Custom Menus Support Page – http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Where do I find ‘Links’ described in the ‘Adding Custom Links’ section? Thanks. – John

What is the URL of this 1st post please?
Once I have it I can better explain how to proceed. -
@fabini
To see where the “Links” section is, watch the video from @timethief’s suggested support page, around 00:55 it walks through how to add a link, and you’ll see where Links is located.I hope it’ll make it clearer.

Thanks. However, there is no ‘Links’ choice on the Appearance/Menus page. Perhaps “Hemingway-Rewritten” does not support it. – John

This is not a theme related issue at all. You simply do this. Create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Then add the post link for the 1st post into it as a custom link http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links -
Simply doing sometimes doesn’t work.
I’m taking this in another direction.
Thanks for your suggestions. – John -
You simply type in the URL of the 1st post to create a custom link in the custom menu. It will provided for you on the menu page, but you already published the post so already know what it is.

fabini,
You could also use an image widget to link to your first post, or any post or page for that matter.
It’s very simple to use, though if you want to modify the width or height of the image this tool won’t change the other dimension for you as the post editor image details custom size tool will. Just keep the ratio the same, the width divided by the height is a constant (unless you want distortion).

Re: image widgets
The image might, for example, contain only words. You can create a stylized button (small image), for example, that says “First Post.” Or you might find one in an image search. -
Without the URL of the blog we’re all just guessing. IF your blog is private, we will be able to confirm the version of the software you’re using and NOT read the blog.
-
@fabiani, would you be able to share a screenshot of your dashboard so we can see what appears on your Appearance/Menus page?
That page is the same regardless of whatever theme you use. It’s perplexing that you mention not having the ‘Links’ show up. Let’s try getting to the bottom of it :)
