Go to the Top of all pages

    Hi there, I found

      THIS

page here with instructions on adding a nice big Icon for a “floating” Go To button.

I had to tweak the code to make the following, which I pasted into a Widget Box ( as I added the image for the Go To button to my Blog Media Library so I got the image URL from my blog ) –

    <img src=”http://facinatingamazinganimals.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/gototobutton.png”>

Then when I tried it out, clicking on the arrow takes me to the top of the page but of course as I have no # anchor AT THE TOP OF EACH PAGE & POST OF THE BLOG – clicking on the Arrow “generates a 404 Error message – page cannot be found.”

My question is can I add code to “behind the scenes” o that with WordPress.com I can add the anchor name tag to the framework so the code I used works for all Blog content (pages & posts), rather than having to laboriously use text links on each post or page that I want a “Go to Top” anchor for??

I have added a “Go to Top” link at the bottom of my most popular page, which you can see HERE if you like. I used the following for this Bookmark.

placed at the top of the post

    Wordpress Support
has THIS info about “Go to the Top” and I tried using it by going to my CSS but it doesn’t work. I was wondering if I purchase an Upgrade if I can then add the “anchor name” to the er template or whatever you call it, so that the Floating Button thing works, as it is kinda neat I think, and I would love to have it !!

Thank you for your assistance. :)

Here is the Code without the tags so you can read them:

    a style=”position:fixed;bottom:5px;right:5px;” href=””#”” title=”Go to Top”><img src=”http://facinatingamazinganimals.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/gototobutton.png”>

<a name="top"></a> placed at the top of the post

<a href="#top">Click here to go to the Top of the page</a>

    Hi again

We discovered the simple answer to my question. I was going mad because it was difficult for me to copy the original code from the ‘3 Ways to add a Floating Go to Top Button’ and when I at last copied it from the tiny box it was in, I somehow messed up the code!!

    Yipes!

I had somehow put extra quote marks around the hash, and luckily my partner pointed this out. Thank goodness for his “eagle eyes” as when I corrected it, so that the code in the Widget Text box on my blog looks like below, the Arrow now works. Amazing. I am VERY pleased.

    <a style="position:fixed;bottom:5px;right:5px;" href="#" title="Go to Top"><img src="http://facinatingamazinganimals.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/gototobutton.png"></a>

This also reminds me of my sister (whom is a programmer) saying to me when we use code, 90 percent of the time that errors are due to getting part of the Code wrong!! Lesson learned.
