GoDaddy deleted my website. It was a WP site, is there anyway to retrieve it?

    Yikes, that’s a terrible situation.

These forums are mainly for sites hosted at wordpress.com, so there’s not much anyone here can do. You can try the wordpress.org support forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ and they might have some ideas.

Your other option could be to see if GoDaddy has a backup of the site that they could give you.

GoDaddy can’t help me. I reached out to someone that had helped me build the site and she recommended reaching out to WP since it was a WP site. There doesn’t seem to be any way to contact WP except through here….which is frustrating.

    That definitely sounds frustrating.

Try the wordpress.org forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/. Those ones are for sites that were using WordPress software but hosted elsewhere (Like on GoDaddy for instance.)

These are the wordpress.com forums and are mainly for sites hosted at wordpress.com.

  • Hi @shalaut,

To clear up any further confusion, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.

We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

As @jcusitar mentioned above, the support for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software is at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

Thank you SO much. I needed that. This website world is very confusing. I will reach out in that direction. I’m not expecting much in return at this point. I think I need to just rebuild. It’s just heartbreaking that it has to be done.

  • Ah, that’s really frustrating.

Here, on WordPress.com, things work differently. Even if your subscription expires, you can always access your content.

When you choose to self-host, you become responsible for your own backups, maintenance, security, and site performance, as well as theme and plugin compatibility. If you feel comfortable handling these aspects, it could be a good option for you.

Meanwhile, WordPress.com takes care of all these developer operations in the background, so you can focus on building your website. Once you sign up with WordPress.com, you will be ready to build your website immediately, without the need for any server-side configurations.

WordPress.com also offers the benefits of the open-source software, plus managed hosting as a fully integrated SaaS (Software as a Service) solution. This means you will have access to the power and scalability of the latest version of WordPress, plus superior hosting speed, automated backups, and security features on our platform.

If you’d like to create your new site here with us, have a look at the different plans we offer:

If you have additional questions, let us know, we’ll be happy to advise :).
