GoDaddy DNS: Please Can Anyone Help Me Because This Is Doing My Head In!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have bought a domain name with Go Daddy and I’m trying to link the domain with WordPress. I’ve paid £13 to do this. I am an author trying to design a website for my books. I’ve had the domain for a month and I’m struggling.

    At the GoDaddy end of things, I’ve set the WordPress nameservers as WordPress kindly told me what to put:

    1 NS1.WORDPRESS.COM Active
    2 NS2.WORDPRESS.COM Active
    3 NS3.WORDPRESS.COM Active

    So far, so good. But at the WordPress end it’s telling me to Edit DNS before it can link to the domain and here’s where I’m well and truly stuck. I’m looking at the example WP is showing and it’s all gobbledegook to me. I’ve been referred to an article on GoDaddy but frankly I don’t understand what it’s trying to tell me:

    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/680/managing-dns-for-your-domain-names

    Which bit of the article is relevant?

    I pride myself in being OK with computers up to a certain standard but I haven’t got a degree in computer science and I’m beginning to think I need one. Can anyone help, please???!

    Thanks :(

    Domain mapping is set correctly and works for traceymorait.co.uk.

    You correctly followed these instructions for mapping your domain name: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    You should update your blog in the base blog – traceymorait.wordpress.com

    Why are you trying to edit the DNS records?

    Unless you are adding email you do not need to do anything with the DNS records part, all you needed to do for the domain mapping is the nameservers at Godaddy & the domain mapping which you seem to have done correctly . See below for email help

    I’m having a similar problem. I too bought my domain with GoDaddy. I now have my name servers pointing to WordPress as instructed.
    I’m trying like mad to verify that I am indeed the site owner so that I can imbed a clickable link in my youtube videos. It will not allow this until I am “verified”….every time I try it, it doesn’t work. I’m stuck, and I can’t talk to support till the am, and I’m getting very frustrated now. If anyone knows how to do this please HELP!!! I know I can’t be the only one….

    @zoomdca – I don’t think you can verify ownership to YouTube –

    If the clickable links you want to embed in the video are Ads – that will get your site suspended

    @auxclass

    Many thanks for your reply. After I posted the message I noticed my url was displaying my page, and I was puzzled because for a while it was saying not found.

    It’s because of this on the Domains page Custom DNS:

    ‘The standard records that make your blog work are not shown. ‘

    I thought it was telling me I had to do something else to get it to work.

    I didn’t do anything this end other than to click the radio button to make that domain the primary domain, so it seems it’s found it after all.

    Thanks for that link which I’ll read later. Sorry for being a bone brain and thanks for your help :)
