Not sure whether to purchase premium account through WordPress, or add website hosting with WordPress through GoDaddy.

Full disclosure: I’m a Happiness Engineer at WordPress.com so I’m likely to be a bit biased :)
If you host with us at WordPress.com you don’t need to worry about security, backups, or updates. We manage all those things for you. We also have fantastic uptime, speed, and we don’t charge for traffic. This means you will not have to pay more as your site grows. You’ll also have the support of WordPress.com Happiness Engineers like me :) My own personal site is hosted on the WordPress.com platform which is a also a good sign!
Reasons for getting a self-hosted site instead? If you want to install plugins, upload your own theme, or modify the code, then you’ll need a self-hosted site. We have some restrictions on sites hosted at WordPress.com but the benefit of this is that our platform is very stable. WordPress.com practically never goes down.
A good way to decide is to ask yourself this question: Do you want to focus on publishing and let someone else manage the security, updates, and backups? If yes, then WordPress.com is the perfect choice. If you would prefer to have access to all the code and a high level of customisation then WordPress.org would be better.
