GoDaddy Domain Mapping to deleted WP address

First time mapping a godaddy domain http://www.waterlightwords.com to WordPress site and the resulting page says it’s been deleted.
It says:https://waterlightwordscom.wordpress.com (which was deleted)
but we understood waterlightwords.com was mapping to: https://waterlightwordsdotcom.wordpress.com
apparently we were wrong…and we can’t figure out how to fix it.
All help appreciated. It’s been this kind of week!
